How GPA is Calculated
Your GPA (Grade Point Average) is calculated by dividing the total number of grade points earned by the total number of credit hours attempted. Each letter grade is assigned a point value on a 4.0 scale:
Formula: GPA = Σ(Grade Points × Credit Hours) ÷ Σ(Credit Hours)
Grades of W (Withdraw), P (Pass), and I (Incomplete) are excluded from GPA calculation. The average GPA for US college students is approximately 3.12.
